Why? Probably the most important reason to become actively involved in the Jemez Mountains Firewise Association (JMFA) is to take advantage of the resources available to local homeowners in managing their properties from the threat of catastrophic wildfires. Some of these resources include grants to thin stands of dense timber, thereby making your property better attuned with standard community Firewise practices. New Mexico State Forestry has a stewardship program in which a forester will come to your location to assess your home's resistance to fire and how best to improve problem areas.

Increased fire danger during summer months in the eastern Jemez Mountains is common. However, substandard winter snowpacks and warm, dry springs exacerbate the problem. Do you feel adequately prepared to protect your home from wildfire? Don’t allow complacency to jeopardize your home.

Consider becoming an active member of JMFA. It costs nothing to join and is one of the most beneficial strategies you can employ as a homeowner. Use the form below to send email to us or send an email to and you will be contacted about joining.
